Adult literacy education is essential for improving people’s quality of life and contributes to the overall development of the society as a whole. In a significant milestone, the Malawi government has today launched the National Adult Literacy and Education Strategic Plan which is aimed at steering and guiding the implementation of adult literacy education in the country.
YONECO, along with other partners and stakeholders participated in the launch event that was held at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe City.
At the function, we showcased our work, particularly in the promotion of adult literacy education in Malawi through our various district offices across the country. Over the years, we have managed to successfully integrate adult literacy education with other critical socioeconomic sessions.
Specifically, we have streamlined the adult literacy education component with livelihood activities as well as educational sessions on the prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), child protection, Sexual Reproductive Health (SRHR), and human rights.
Overall, our integrated approach to adult literacy education acknowledges the multi-layered challenges which adults in the country face and aims to holistically address them through the education sessions.
